Smart cities: Specific applications in the city of Vitória-ES

Abstract

The concept of “smart cities” arises with a view to tackling current urban problems using Information and Communication Technologies, however, the desires and well-being of citizens are often forgotten. The objective of this work is to propose urban improvement strategies, under the concept of “smart cities”, for the Brazilian city of Vitória-ES. In the methodology, a bibliographic review of the topic “smart cities” was used; questionnaire; field visit in the Brazilian city Vitória-ES. It was concluded that the association of technology with the urban environment is capable of resulting in a greater quality of life for the population, however, the user's perception must be taken into account, considering their real needs for interventions to be effective. The answers to the questionnaire and the field visit made it possible to indicate intelligent strategies regarding green urbanism, revitalizing sidewalks for active mobility, proposing new urban furniture and implementing smart lighting fixtures.
