The morphological and material conditions of the building and urban envelope, and of the elements that constitute the urban space, have an impact on the microclimatic conditions of urban spaces and, therefore, on the comfort of pedestrians. This work aimed to characterize the microclimatic conditions of two urban canyons (CU) in the city downtown, whose main difference is their H/W ratio, and to evaluate the outdoor thermal comfort. This was done by in-situ measurements and analysis of thermal comfort categories according to the UTCI indicator. It was observed that the CU with lower H/W presented higher temperatures and longer time in heat stress categories, as a consequence of higher exposure to solar radiation. The results show the impact of urban design decisions on the habitability of the city and the need to incorporate the comfort dimension in urban planning.
