Indoor air quality in office spaces
Impact of pollutants on occupants' health and well-being.

This study analyzes indoor air quality (IAQ) in office spaces, focusing on the impacts of pollutants such as CO₂, PM₂.₅, and PM₁₀ on occupant health and well-being, contextualizing the topic within Brazil. The methodology integrated a systematic literature review and on-site measurements in an office in São Paulo, collecting data to assess pollutant concentrations. Results revealed CO₂ and particulate matter levels exceeding WHO guidelines and national standards, which may be linked to inadequate ventilation, inefficient air conditioning systems, and internal/external pollution sources. Research indicates these pollutants are associated with respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurocognitive issues. To mitigate these effects, recommendations include prioritizing natural ventilation, enhancing mechanical ventilation systems with efficient filters, conducting regular equipment maintenance, and implementing continuous IAQ monitoring. These measures aim to create healthier and more productive work environments without compromising energy efficiency.
