The article aims to synthesize a literature review on global climate change and its impacts, analyzing the main future climate scenarios, their assumptions, and their socio-economic and environmental implications. To this end, it discusses Global Climate Models (GCMs) and the prospective scenarios developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), including the Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES), Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs), and Shared Socio-Economic Pathways (SSPs), providing a critical analysis of the different scenarios and their applicability in the context of space management. Furthermore, it highlights the role of urban areas in climate change adaptation and mitigation, as major greenhouse gas emitters and highly vulnerable to extreme weather events. The study concludes that the adoption of strict public policies and adaptation strategies is essential for cities' climate strategy.
