Mapping of vehicular traffic noise in Arapiraca-AL: study of the Baixa Grande and Eldorado neighbourhoods

The increase in vertical buildings, soil sealing, reduction of green areas, and increase in vehicle flow are some of the factors that influence the worsening of environmental comfort conditions in cities. Traffic noise is considered the main polluting agent of the sound environment, with noise mapping being one of the main tools for its assessment and mitigation. The objective of this article is to produce the traffic noise mapping of two neighborhoods in the city of Arapiraca-AL: Eldorado and Baixa Grande. The methodological stages were: 1) collection of variables; 2) monitoring of sound pressure levels; 3) development of the traffic noise map; 4) analysis of the results. With this study, it is expected to propose a tool to insert urban sound planning strategies as a basis for future interventions in the city.
