a reflection on urbanization and noise pollution

Abstract

The urbanization process of cities, intensified by the Industrial Revolution, led to territorial expansion and population growth in urban centers. Authors such as Lefebvre (1974) and Howard (1902) discuss how urban planning should balance the city and the countryside. Howard proposed garden cities, which inspired the creation of Maringá, in Paraná, by engineer Jorge Macedo Vieira. However, urban growth without the guidance of urban planning guidelines has resulted in problems such as increased noise, especially in regions far from urban centers. The example of Maringá illustrates that the lack of specific legislation that determines acoustic comfort as a parameter for the planning of new Trade and Service Axes, as well as the absence of noise maps, contribute to the intensification of noise pollution in the municipality.
