Abstract

Urban resilience indicators are essential for monitoring the effectiveness of policies to adapt to global climate change. Albedo, which represents the ability of materials to reflect solar radiation, plays a fundamental role in urban climate and energy consumption in buildings. This article presents the methodology used to calculate the percentage of surfaces with high albedo in urban areas. The method includes the creation of a spectral database, developed from images from the Landsat 8 satellite, integrated into a georeferenced cellular space, in addition to the application of cluster analysis and the use of free software and databases. The experiments were conducted in three municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba (SP, Brazil), revealing that Jacareí has the highest percentage of area covered by high albedo materials (5.62%), followed by São José dos Campos (4.84%) and Caçapava (3.17%).
