Challenges and Solutions for Accessibility in Listed Buildings
A Comparative Study between Dona Yayá House (SP) and Théo Brandão Museum (AL)

Despite the complex relationship between accessibility solutions and heritage preservation principles in listed buildings, both concepts aim to ensure universal access to cultural and historical assets, as stated in the Brazilian Constitution. This study aims to analyze and compare the challenges and accessibility solutions in two listed buildings housing public cultural spaces: the Dona Yayá House (SP) and the Théo Brandão Museum (AL). The methodology included theoretical research and field assessment based on checklists adapted by the authors and relevant to the theme. The results revealed that, although the institutions have implemented accessibility measures, physical and signage barriers persist, limiting the full inclusion of people with disabilities. The study contributes to the discussion about reconciling heritage preservation with accessibility, emphasizing the need for reversible solutions that are compatible with the historical identity of the buildings.
