Since the 1990s, methods of comparing energy efficiency between buildings with similar typologies have been used to quantify and qualify energy efficiency through benchmarks. This study used energy consumption data from Federal Police Superintendence buildings in operation 24 hours a day, located in the 27 Brazilian state capitals, with the aim of developing a benchmark for these buildings. Analysis of the 2018 and 2019 data revealed that: 1) the age and building typology impact energy consumption; 2) the climate is a determining factor in consumption, with buildings in warm bioclimatic zones having a higher energy demand due to the need for air conditioning. Further studies are needed to deepen the relationship between the volume of the building envelope, lighting density and the energy consumption of these buildings.
