Urbanization has caused changes in the climate of cities, resulting in the increase of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. The objective of this article is to determine the impact of arborization and the material selected to mitigate UHI in the public space of Medellín. The method used is based on: Compilation of climate data from the city's most recent EPW archive; Characterization of trees according to their leaf area index, crown shape, use in public space and of the material according to its solar reflectance and infrared emittance; Simulation of the urban microclimate in ENVI-met of the existing and proposed scenario; UHI Estimate. A decrease of up to 17°C of the Equivalent Physiological Temperature (PET) was observed, mitigating 93% of the UHI. The methodology establishes guidelines for tree and material selection to effectively mitigate this phenomenon.
