Challenges and reflections on the interaction between architectural heritage, afforestation, and accessibility in downtown areas: APAC-cruz vermelha - rio de janeiro

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the cultural heritage, its relationship with the surroundings, accessibility/forestation demands, and challenges in the Cultural Environment Protection Area of ​​the City of Rio de Janeiro – APAC – Cruz Vermelha. The work was carried out on Lavradio Street (even-numbered side), between Relação and Visconde do Rio Branco Streets, and between Senado and Visconde do Rio Branco Streets (odd-numbered side). Its main objective is to discuss the challenges of this architectural heritage and its surroundings. It was necessary to survey and analyze the architectural complex, examining how it interacts, relates to, and shares its physical-spatial and landscape needs with public open spaces. The research, both documentary and qualitative (participatory), was developed from initial readings that supported the concepts adressed, bibliographic surveys, selection of the study area, and scheduled visits for origins, photographic records, notes on plans, and pre-made tables, in addition to the production of drawings and historical maps. As initial results, the research agreed and mapped the uses and occupation of the area, its state of conservation, implementation, height, skyline of buildings, and their relationship with urban afforestation and accessibility to understand the changes that have occurred, changes in new practices and the effective sustainability of the location.
