Digital Material Passports (DMPs) are digital tools that gather essential data about the composition, performance, and origin of materials, enabling their traceability, reuse, and recycling in the construction sector. This article investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can optimize the creation, analysis, and application of DMPs, promoting more sustainable and circular practices. The adopted methodology is a qualitative analysis with a systematic and exploratory review, based on an integrative literature review focused on digital technologies such as BIM and AI applications in the context of civil construction. The results indicate that machine learning and natural language processing techniques can automate passport generation, identify performance patterns, and ensure real-time regulatory compliance. The integration between AI and DMPs helps reduce waste, enhance material traceability, and support decision-making in sustainable projects. Therefore, this research contributes to the understanding of AI’s transformative role in improving efficiency and sustainability throughout the materials’ life cycle, enabling the integration of circular practices in construction and other sectors.
