The study analyzes urban growth in cities of the Metropolitan Region of Serra Gaúcha, considering their historical evolution and the factors influencing expansion in different directions, generating growth vectors. The research adopts an empirical and predictive approach to identify how elements such as topography, road infrastructure, and hydrographic systems impact expansion toward the north, south, east, and west. The municipality of Antônio Prado is used as a case study, applying spatial analysis through QGIS and projection spreadsheets to estimate urban growth patterns until 2070. The results highlight preferential directions of expansion and limiting factors, contributing to the understanding of regional urban dynamics and supporting more strategic and sustainable planning.
