USE AND FUNCTIONS FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC SPACES IN LAURO DE FREITAS (BAHIA-BR)

Abstract

This article stems from a research project that, in its final stage, aims to propose sustainable urban furniture solutions for squares in the metropolitan region of Salvador. The primary objective is to analyze the transformations in the use and appropriation of these spaces and assess how the implementation of urban furniture can encourage new forms of appropriation. This study addresses the first phase of the research, with the following specific objectives: to present the context in which the project is embedded, discuss the key concepts employed, and synthesize the main results obtained through the community reading. To achieve the proposed objectives, the following methodological steps were carried out: bibliographic and documentary review, field observations, exploratory interviews with public agents, and, finally, a survey with local residents and users of the Matriz Square in Lauro de Freitas, selected as the initial study object. The survey used a mixed-question questionnaire, yielding a total of 152 responses. The results provided key insights for defining and proposing the urban furniture solutions.
