Traffic education and active mobility
Raising awareness among youth and adolescents for health and environmental sustainability

Traffic education is a powerful tool for promoting changes in dangerous behavior in everyday life. Traffic education can make the movement of people in the urban environment, especially children and adolescents who are directly affected, safer and more efficient, and in the long term it can change traffic in general, forming users who are more aware of their rights and duties. The aim of this article is to encourage reflection on the thematic axis of teaching and practicing traffic education with an emphasis on the school community applied to young people and adolescents. In addition to the focus on education, the contribution that this theme makes to active mobility and the benefits to health and well-being is debated. To this end, bibliographical reviews were used, seeking to understand the relationship between the subject and the school world and its consequences after the young people have graduated. The results encourage society and public policies to invest in this educational segment, which not only addresses safety, but also health promotion and citizen training.
