Mycelium-based composites are biodegradable, have low environmental impact potential, and can be an alternative to conventional solutions in civil construction. In order to understand the different production methods and tests performed in the production of mycelium composites, a systematic review of the literature was conducted by mapping articles published in the last five years. The results were compiled in a summary table, indicating the waste and fungal species used, the type of element produced, and the tests performed according to each author and corresponding year. The results show that the fungal species Pleurotus ostreatus and Trametes versicolor, together with hemp and wood sawdust waste, were the most used in these studies. The relevance of this research is mainly justified by the study of an alternative material, about which there is still little scientific information regarding its development and construction applications, especially when considering the Brazilian context and other countries in the Global South.
