Abstract

This article presents the proposal for the requalification of the Brasília Zoo through the development of its new Master Plan, structured as a strategic instrument for the institution’s centenary (2057). The proposal repositions the zoo as a multifunctional green infrastructure, integrating environmental conservation, animal welfare, universal accessibility, and climate-sensitive urbanism. The plan organizes the territory into thematic zones representing Brazilian biomes, connected by accessible pathways and educational spaces, and incorporates nature-based solutions, infrastructure retrofitting, and inclusive coexistence strategies. The project articulates ecological, social, and cultural guidelines aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (2030 Agenda), consolidating the zoo as a space of mediation between nature and the city, memory and innovation. The article brings together diagnostic analyses, theoretical foundations, and operational proposals that reinforce the zoo’s role as an urban laboratory for collective well-being, environmental education, and spatial justice.
