Awareness-raising of environmental comfort concepts

Didatic-pedagogical experience in Itinerant School

Abstract

The present paper discusses the development of a didactic activity to raise awareness about the concepts of environmental comfort for first-year students of Architecture and Urbanism graduation. A trip to the Paraíba Valley was taken advantage of, where the students spent a week learning about architecture and urbanism in practice and experiencing the local society and culture. A notebook was prepared for students to fill in with their perceptions of environmental comfort with the aim of awakening future architecture professionals the importance of assessing different subject aspects and guiding the vision and other senses. In order to make easier the notebook filling, an intuitive instrument was chosen, by using icons and dividing into themes that would lead to the fundamental points of sensory analysis for determining the environmental quality of spaces. The results obtained through the analysis of the material and the feedback from the students were very positive in raising awareness and expanding the technical repertory (repertoire) of these students. Thus, this notebook can be replicated in external activities, such as visitations, in other Architecture and Urbanism courses.
