THE development of the semiotic vision of architecture students at UFRJ: a bioclimatic aesthetic

Abstract

Based on the precepts of the semiotic vision of architecture, this study aims to evaluate and analyze the development of perception of Architecture and Urbanism students at UFRJ throughout their graduation, correlating the aesthetics of diverse architectural styles with the identification of elements related to bioclimatic architecture. This survey was conducted by presenting students with photographs of ten building facades with different styles from different periods, situated in Rio de Janeiro's Centro district, and administering a questionnaire that related these photographs to the two concepts in question, aesthetics and bioclimatic architecture. The data collected in this research were processed separately for beginner and advanced students. Using the principles of fuzzy logic, the presented results were analyzed and led to the conclusion that not only was technical knowledge related to bioclimatism assimilated by the students throughout the course, but it also influenced their aesthetic pleasure in relation to the different styles of building facade composition.
