Buildings with environmental sustainability certifications are experiencing significant growth, and Brazil ranks 4th globally in the LEED international certification program for sustainable constructions. At the national level, there are currently 926 certified projects, predominantly consisting of corporate buildings. However, residential buildings still represent a minority in this market, highlighting a significant gap in both project development and research. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the indoor environmental quality of multifamily residential buildings in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, which have obtained environmental sustainability certifications. With a focus on aspects related to the indoor environment, the certifications predominantly assess requirements in terms of thermal comfort, acoustic performance, lighting, and indoor air quality. Two buildings with similar architectural characteristics but different certifications were selected to compare the aspects of indoor environmental quality in residential buildings. One building achieved LEED BD+C: Core and Shell (v2009) certification, scoring 70 out of 110 points, while the other obtained certification through GBC Brazil Condomínio, scoring 91 out of 110 points. Through a comparative analysis of the two certifications, it was evident that LEED places a greater emphasis on indoor air quality, while GBC Brazil focuses on the internal performance of the building.
