Social Housing (SH) programs still fail to deliver value to end users, in terms of layout functionality, comfort, design model variety and location. Alternatives to improve existing housing becomes increasingly necessary, as a way to reduce negative impacts, and increase the well-being and quality of life of its beneficiaries. This article reports the development of a proposal to improve a SH unit based on a participatory and interactive process between researchers and housing owners. Card games, walkthroughs and questionnaires were applied to engage users, identify and develop solutions on the existing project, from the user's perspective. The methodology and applied tools contributed to a better identification of user's desires, by addressing the problem in a ludic and guided manner, which facilitated the process and understanding of the design project, and user values
