Abstract

The acoustic performance of buildings directly impacts the health of its users, since the long exposure to noise can increase the risk of diseases development. In this aspect, the noise insulation of the internal and external seals is an important characteristic to be considered in the specification of the projects. For this design, it is widely used the computational modeling performed based on the calculation method recommended by ISO 12354. The objective of the present study was to evaluate comparatively acoustic insulation results of internal vertical seals obtained by computational simulation and test results of the same seals obtained in field tests, performed according to the engineering method recommended in ABNT NBR 15575-4. For the study, 14 vertical fences were evaluated, all composed of masonry of 8 hole ceramic blocks (9x19x19cm) coated with gypsum paste or cementitious mortar. Analyzing the results of the differences between the values obtained in the modeling and the field tests, a standard deviation of 1.78dB was obtained. Only one of the 14 seals analyzed presented a difference between the modeling values and measured in the field greater than 2dB and considering this sample not representative of the universe and withdrawing it from the analysis the standard deviation between results falls to 1.11dB. It is concluded, therefore, that the computational modeling can be configured as a reliable tool for specification of the internal seals considering the due deviations, but for a better verification it is necessary to develop studies with different typologies..
