Abstract

Because they are large convergence points of the most diverse interests of society, the free trade fairs (free market) attract to their surroundings trades and services interested in the economic exchanges that derive from this commercial activity, thus modifying, the use of the soil of the regions, its traffic of pedestrians and vehicles, their social and spatial relations. All these transformations insert the commercial locality as reference of the city in diverse scopes: social, cultural and economic, as well as sonorous for the region to which it is inserted. The objective of this work is to carry out a comparative evaluation of the noise impact caused by two areas designated for the fair, located in residential areas, in the city of Maceió - AL. The applied methodology counted on the characterization of the study areas and sound pressure level measurements along with the count of light and heavy vehicles that traveled by the place during the measurements in loco. The results showed the noisy impact of the free trade fairs around them and as the vehicular traffic and the size of the fair causes the increase of the values of sound pressure levels in the place, being this aspect a factor to be considered for the urban planning of architects, town planners and public managers.
