The choices of the constructive elements of a building must include safety, the requirements according to technical standards and guarantee comfort and performance. In this context, this article presents a study of the acoustic insulation of constructive elements in a study room at a federal university based in the municipality of Santa Maria. In situ measurements of residual noise, reverberation time and air insulation of the internal vertical and horizontal sealing systems were carried out. The tests were based on the instructions of the norms ABNT: NBR ISO 16283-1:2021, NBR ISO 717-1:2021 and NBR ISO 3382-2:2017. As results found for the vertical sealing system (wall and door) the transmission loss of the set was 37 dB, and for the horizontal sealing system (ribbed slab) the airborne noise isolation was 52 dB. It is important to remember that acoustic performance in buildings, especially in Brazil, covers housing elements and not different buildings such as schools or commercial buildings. Therefore, the results found in this article were compared with the reference values of the American standard ANSI/ASA S12.60/Part 1:2010 (R2020), which has its own parameters for schools and classrooms. The results revealed that the acoustic performance of the internal vertical sealing system, which constitutes the study room object of this research, is insufficient, while the horizontal sealing system presented acceptable values for airborne noise insulation.
