Abstract

Green infrastructure is conceptualized as one of the elements of environmental quality incorporated in civil
construction for sustainable development. Among them, the vertical garden stands out as a bioclimatic strategy
capable of reducing energy consumption and reducing significant temperatures in a building while mitigating
climate change. The typology of the green façade is equivalent to a system made up of a type of vegetation
that runs along the walls. In this context, this article aimed to analyze the effect of the Hedera Helix species,
popularly known as Falsa Hera, on the thermal performance of walls in hot and dry weather. Therefore,
experimental research was carried out in a health clinic in the city of Piripiri-PI. The method adopted was of
an exploratory nature based on data collection in loco, with the presence of green walls, external and internal
to the building, facing west. Monitoring of the surface temperature of the west wall of the clinic was carried
out, with the presence and absence of the plant species, at 04 times a day, for 04 days in the summer period.
The results obtained showed the relevance of the Hedera Helix species in minimizing thermal gains by up to
5 °C for the generation of thermal comfort in the indoor environment. On the external face of the wall, it
obtained a reduction of 6 °C when there is the presence of the plant species.
