Solar radiation is the main source of heat and can be exploited or avoided as needed, directly influencing the thermal gain of the interior of a building through its constructive envelope. In this way, the openings (glazed areas) have great influence on the thermal gain of internal environments. Thus, the shading elements present as a good strategy that aims at reducing the thermal gain as a function of incident solar radiation. Its application with adequate dimensions and orientation allows blocking the entrance of thermal load through openings in some periods (summer), as it allows its presence when necessary (winter). The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of different elements of solar control on the thermal gain of buildings, resulting in effects on their energy consumption. The methodology adopted involves: (i) characterization of the models; (ii) masking analysis of the proposed elements; (iii) computational simulation of the models, and finally (iv) comparative analysis of energy consumption. As a result of the research, it is observed that for a small glazed area, the use of shading element becomes less expressive in relation to the energetic consumption of the building, whereas in large glazed surfaces, the use of shading elements allows the reduction of energy consumption in environments. It can be concluded that in spaces with large areas with glass the input of solar radiation is very significant, increasing the energy consumption through the use of air conditioning, thus, the use of shading elements becomes necessary and indispensable for greater comfort thermal and higher energy efficiency in buildings.
