Abstract

The population of the urban centers tends to grow in the coming decades, making it necessary to develop processes for a more systematic monitoring of urban environmental conditions, considering that cities have a strong impact on the site they are located. This article aims to present a brief overview on national and international research on urban climate, focusing on the methods and techniques used to measure urban heat islands. The bibliographic survey identified the applicability of the methods and techniques in medium and small cities, as well as pointing out some gaps for the advancement of knowledge in the area.
