The concept of Zero Energy Buildings has been expressive in the scenario of civil construction sustainability, considering that it proposes environmental, social and economic benefits. This solution includes strategies of environmental comfort for the energy efficiency as well as the power generation by renewable sources in order to supply the power demand of the building. This work aims to propose a method of project process to reach the Zero Energy Buildings in one vertical social housing inserted in an altitude tropical climate, more specifically in the Setor Habitacional Sol Nascente, in the city of Ceilândia, Federal District. The proposal was based on established guidelines by the national tender of architecture projects for mixed-use buildings with housing units and commerce carried out by the Federal District Housing Development Company - CODHAB. The research was divided in 3 stages: urban context evaluation of Sol Nascente, development of a social housing proposal following the concept of Zero Energy Buildings and verifying the energy balance of the proposal with online calculators. After the analysis of the data, it was verified the feasibility of strategies of energy efficiency in one vertical housing with social interest and of onsite electric power generation by the means of photovoltaic system, which together make Zero Energy Building – ZEB possible. However, an inadequacy was found in the program needs proposed by CODHAB tender that impairs the integration of passive architectural strategies to this location.
