Abstract

In buildings designed for health care environments, specifically in regard to wards, window systems are of fundamental importance, as they must provide adequate levels of natural lighting within the environment, guaranteeing the visual comfort of its occupants and favoring the economy electrical energy used in artificial lighting. This work aims to evaluate the quantity and quality of natural illumination in the ward located in the north wing (D-03), third floor of the University Hospital Gaffreé and Guinle - HUGG, verifying if the users of this building are benefited by the synchronization of the circadian rhythm through the analysis of the availability of natural light and / or artificial lighting in the studied environment. The methodology was developed with the "in loco" survey of the physical and material characteristics of the environment; Simulation in AGI-32 lighting software (static simulation of artificial illumination, expressed as absolute values of illuminance at the patient's eye level in conjunction with the circadian stimulus CS index, and LICASO (dynamic simulation of natural light producing series annual illuminance and natural light availability), comparing with the parameters cDA, ASE, UDI and CS autonomy. The results show that the D-03 ward presents an amount of natural light above that established by the criteria of IES LM-83-2012, in some months of the year, especially in the hours of 12 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., influencing the gain of thermal load in the environment and generating glare, both mitigable through the use of operable windows. This demonstrated the CS metric and the concept of daylight autonomy (DA), used together to identify problems related to the circadian rhythm in extended dwelling environments such as wards, whose solutions, whether through natural or artificial lighting have potential to benefit health care users. LICASO software has a high speed for simulation, is easy to interact with the user and works with the IES LM-83-2012 standard, and allows customization, presenting itself as an alternative for professionals in the field of efficient projects.
