Abstract

In the projects of school buildings, specifically in classrooms, the design of window systems and skylight openings are important, and they should offer adequate levels of daylight ensuring visual comfort and saving energy used in artificial lighting. This work aims to analyze the quantity and quality of natural lighting in the classroom located in Block D (room 202) of the building Jorge Machado Moreira - UFRJ, where are the faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the School of Fine Arts. The use of this room is currently destined to plastic disciplines I and II for the School of Fine Arts students. This room features a skylight associated with a large glass on the façade. The methodology for the analysis was developed in the following stages: identification of physical and material characteristics of the room; mapping the classroom illuminance through the distribution of 19 points defined based on the standard NBR15215-4 of 03/2005; measurements performed by means of a luxmeter for three days in the same week of the month of May/2018, at three different times: 9:00, 12:00 and 15:00; simulation in lighting software AGI-32 (static simulation that expresses results in the form of absolute values of illuminance for specific schedules and days) and LICASO (dynamic simulation that produce annual series of illuminances), both with academic licenses provided by the company Lighting Analysts; consult the standard ABNT NBR ISO/CIE 8995-1:2013 – which defines the necessary and specific illuminances for various environments. The results obtained show that although the classroom can remain all day with artificial light erased, it presents a quantity of light above that established by the standard. Through the dynamic simulations it was also possible to observe that the amount of natural illumination is excessive during the year, influencing the gain of thermal load in the environment and generating glare. The software LICASO has a great speed for simulation, it is easy to interact with the user and works with the standard IES LM-83-2012, reference of LEED v. 4, presenting itself as an alternative for professionals in the area of efficient projects.
