Daylight is a lighting source that must be used in residential building as it can cause a positive impact on its energy efficiency as well as provide good visual comfort conditions and, consequently, a better life quality. The availability of daylight in urban areas is associated with several factors such as geographic orientation, type and dimensions of windows, shading devices, surface reflectance among others. Thus, considering that NBR 15575-1 establishes levels of daylight and that the conditions of environment obstructions interfere in daylight of internal rooms, this work aims to analyze the light performance in social interest housing built in Governador Valadares/ MG, based on its frame features used for this type of project. Also the reduction of light in its internal rooms was considered due to the walls built after occupation. The methodology used for this study was based on NBR 15575-1 prescriptive methods and the requirements established by NBR 15215 parts 2 and 3. The results indicated that more than 50% of the minimum standards of daylight were not reached for the internal rooms due to the type of frame installed in the houses. However, it was shown that the walls built by the owners did not cause significant interferences in the light levels in the rooms analyzed. In view of the results, improvements for the house design adopted were identified and proposed with regard to the admission of daylight.
