The daylighting performance analysis has been incorporated as in mandatory standards as in environmental and energy certifications. Due to the urban density increased, there is a need to verify how much the urban context can impact on building performance. In this sense, the objective of this paper was to analyze the influence of the urban context in the daylighting access and lighting system energy consumption of a commercial building located in Sao Paulo. It was analyzed in two cases: a hypothetical high-rise urban context and an unobstructed context. As an energy efficiency measure, the building incorporates photo controls use to reduce the consumption of the lighting system. The study applies computational simulation for LM-83, an international method that defines parameters for daylighting access and classification of the building efficiency by following Instrução Normativa do Inmetro (INI-C), in public consultation since 2018. As a result, it can be observed that there is a variation of 50% between the two cases in the daylight performance analysis and an increase of 52% of the lighting energy consumption in a high-rise context. It can be concluded that the consideration of the urban scenario in building’s performance analysis can imply both the compliance to the standards and certifications as well as to failures in the system’s optimization.
