O IMPACTO DA SUBSTITUIÇÃO DO SISTEMA DE ILUMINAÇÃO PÚBLICA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO ESPÍRITO SANTO – CAMPUS GOIABEIRAS
Keywords:
energy efficiency, lighting design, public lightingAbstract
The search for energy efficiency and sustainability presents it self as an increasingly relevant global issue and, in Brazil, the efforts to optimize the public lighting department, have been recurrent, owing to its significative energy consumption. In this regard, the objetc of the article is to evaluate the energy impact of the new public lighting system which the project has been granted to the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Goiabeiras campus. An on-site survey about the installed system has indicated a non-compliance to campus demands and, therefore, requires needs for optimization. With the aid of DIALux software the following lighting project was executed, followed by the comparison between its estimated energy consumption and that of the existing installation. The analysis of the project has revealed an estimated reduction in electricity consumption up to 80%, considering lighting in pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic lanes. The replacement and supplementation of the existing lighting system by LED technology will therefore enable an increase in energy efficiency of the system and a reduction of the monthly cost with electric energy destinated for the illumination of the campus.
