Abstract

The urban green areas have remarkable relevance for the environmental quality of the urban space and for the quality of life of the citizens, interfering as much in social questions as in the questions of health and thermal comfort. The objective of this research is to identify the extent of thermal influence of green areas, such as parks and squares, in the thermal sensation of the inhabitants of the city of São José do Rio Preto - SP. The methodology proposes to obtain the microclimatic data such as air temperature, relative air humidity, direction and speed of the winds in internal and external points to vegetated urban areas, as well as the application of questionnaires referring to the thermal sensation of users in such locations. The data were obtained in the fall, in days of usual temperature of the city, with stable time and without or few clouds. From then on, the surveys of the constructive characteristics of the surroundings of the study points were carried out, the mapping of the microclimatic information and the thermal sensation of the users with the use of a Geographic Information System - GIS. Preliminary results indicate that the data points within the green areas presented more PET values considered as Comfortable, milder temperatures (up to 4ºC difference) and higher relative humidity than their environment. The final results will be able to aid in the urban design and the planning of green areas with the creation of thematic maps and the analysis of the extent of the thermal influence and its spatial distributions of thermal sensations of the users. It is estimated that the analyzed green areas can influence the thermal quality of their immediate surroundings with up to 4ºC less, and that this influence decreases as the distance of the green area increases.
