Abstract

The urban concentration has progressively been causing the substitution of green areas for pavement, which contributes to the increase of the temperature in the cities. In this regard, a natural strategy to improve the microclimate of the constructions and its surroundings is the implementation of green walls in buildings. Since they produce shadows on the walls in which they are installed, the heating of the building materials is minimized. Therefore, the aim of this research is to evaluate the thermal contribution of green walls in four regions of Paraná State. In order to achieve this goal, an experimental study being conducted in the southeast of the state through the use of two species of bindweed, Stictocardia macalusoi and Thunbergia grandiflora, fixed to a built structure at one meter distance of the Southwest façade. This installation, covers four classrooms of an educational building. After the bindweeds are fully developed, the shading capacity of each species will be verified and the environmental variables such as air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed will be measured. After this measurement process, based on the data obtained in the experiment, the thermal effect of the green panels in educational buildings located in the south, north and west regions form the state will be evaluated through computer simulation. Results then obtained for the efficiency of the panels, it will be possible to determine which species of bindweed are the most indicated in each region of the study. Such determination will occur based on comparisons between the average results and the percentage of shading from the studied species. As an expected result of this research will be demonstrated that green walls in constructions can reduce the expenses with mechanical ventilation and improve the environmental quality of the surroundings.
