Abstract

Ideally, housing building projects should provide for adaptation to the climates in which they will be built. Among the aspects to be considered are the ceiling height and the areas of the ventilation openings, whose dimensions can impact the comfort of users and the energy consumption in these buildings. Low ceilings, especially in single-family buildings in tropical regions, as well as insufficient opening areas to provide good ambient ventilation, can cause complications for the thermal comfort of the occupants. Such aspects are generally regulated by municipal laws. Such laws have the potential to include rules for adapting buildings to climates, as they are in place over relatively small territories. Given this, the present research sought to verify the existence of correlations between the constructive parameters height of the ceiling and area for ventilation, defined in the municipal codes, and the annual averages of temperatures and bioclimatic zones. Laws of 97 municipalities were analyzed, covering all state capitals and municipalities with more than 250 thousand inhabitants. The annual averages of temperatures of each municipality and the classification in the Brazilian bioclimatic zoning were also verified. Despite the guidelines present in the bibliography and in technical standards, the data analyzed do not show the existence of strong correlations between the parameters of the construction codes and the annual average temperatures and the bioclimatic zones of the municipalities.
