The design project of Moradias Infantis de Canuanã, concluded in 2016, in the city of Formoso do Araguaia in Tocantins, has its architecture strongly influenced by the local savana climate, characterized by a hot-dry and a hot-humid season. Thermal and visual comfort conditions were assessed by means of analytical proceedures of computer simulations. It was identified in the bedrooms, during the hottest period of of the year, values of operative temperatures around 10 oC below the external temperature, highlighting the influence of the thermal mass of the adobe walls, combined to the natural ventilation and shading. The role of the big roof in reducing solar gains was demonstrated. However, its main impact was seen in the control of daylighting, avoiding the ocurrance of excessive iluminance levels close to the Windows. The architectural synthesis achieved in the design of the Moradias Infantis de Canuanã, which gives value to the use of reforestation wood and earth-construction, in particular, made of this building an international reference of contemporary bioclimatic architecture of hot-dry with humid periods.
