Abstract

In Light Steel Frame (LSF) systems, sealing panels may have their thermal performance and durability affected by the presence of water, increasing the need to assess hygrothermal behavior. Climatic elements vary according to the solar orientation and location, influencing the hygrothermal behavior of the envelope. This work aims to evaluate the influence of solar orientation on the hygrothermal behavior of two systems in LSF in the Brazilian Bioclimatic Zone 3, by using the software WUFI Pro. For that, the climatic conditions of Porto Alegre - RS were characterized, and the SVVE1 and SVVE2 systems were defined. Then, the hygrothermal simulation was performed and the results of moisture flows, risk of condensation by relative humidity and the risk of mold formation were evaluated. The results show that in both systems, the East and South orientations presented the highest values of moisture content. It was also observed that there is a risk of condensation in both systems, with different intensities according to the solar orientation. For SVVE1, all solar orientations present a risk of mold growth, while SVVE2 presented less risk. Therefore, the orientation of the facade has a significant impact on the hygrothermal behavior of the external vertical sealing system.
