Daylight is a dynamic phenomenon, which allows different visual effects of light and shadow, which in general please human beings. In this sense, this research aimed to evaluate the visual effects of light and shadow in the internal environment provided by perforated solar screen. In the methodology, computer simulations were performed using Sketchup software for modeling and the Vray plugin for renderings. A total of five models of perforated solar screen were evaluated for the North and West orientations in two stages of simulations. In the evaluations, the same percentage of façade opening area (PAF) was fixed for all models and the following parameters were varied: thickness, insolation angles (α and β), quantity and dimension of the holes in the perforated solar screen. As an analysis criterion, we sought to identify the potential of the perforated solar screen to generate visual effects of light and shadow in the internal environment and how often they occur. As main results, it is observed that all the models evaluated showed the potential to generate visual effects of light and shadow when there is an incidence of direct solar radiation. In addition, it appears that among the evaluated parameters, the insolation angles (α and β) of the perforated solar screen are those that exert the most significant influence on the frequency and sharpness of the visual effects provided by the Perforated solar screen. It is verified, therefore, that the models that have geometry with greater insolation angles (α and β) are able to generate visual effects with greater frequency and sharpness.
