A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DE MAPAS TÁTEIS NA ORIENTAÇÃO ESPACIAL EM AMBIENTES UNIVERSITÁRIOS

Abstract

The difficulty of spatial orientation is experienced by most users of UFPB Campus I and has as a contributing factor the deficiency in the signaling system. The institution's growth history, which is often disordered, made it impossible to structure it properly to meet the diversity present in its academic community. In view of the difficulties faced by students, teachers and other people who use the university structure, it is necessary to invest in improvements that enable their displacement in a safe, independent and effective way. This article was developed from an excerpt of the undergraduate conclusion work's research “Preliminary project of spatial orientation device: Tactile-Visual Map for Campus I of UFPB” (ALMEIDA, 2019). It aims to highlight the importance of tactile maps as spatial orientation tools in university environments based on the user's perception of the physical and environmental quality of Campus I at UFPB. For that, the adopted methodology consists of four stages: the bibliographic review, to understand the main guiding concepts of the research; the characterization of the campus, contextualizing the reader about the object of study; application of an online questionnaire to understand their perception and difficulties regarding spatial orientation on campus; discoveries matrix to synthesize the information collected. From the data collection and the discoveries matrix, it was possible to analyze the results and propose the main guidelines for improving the UFPB's information and guidance system. Finally, this article made it possible to demonstrate the importance of tactile maps as spatial orientation tools in university environments and the importance of understanding the user's perception of environmental quality in order to propose solutions to the problems found.
