Evaluation of the influence of traffic noise on classroom users through virtual reality

Architecture can influence the functions performed by users in various ways. In classroom environments, acoustic quality can have an impact on the attention and concentration of teachers and students. The objective of this study was to evaluate how traffic noise influences the cognitive performance of classroom users under different acoustic conditions, resulting from combinations of different acoustic insulation and conditioning. Participants were submitted to memorization tests in a virtual reality environment under traffic noise. The results showed that participants were more influenced by sound insulation than by the impulse response. However, the trend between acoustic conditions varied according to the participants.
