Abstract

São Paulo, the richest and most populous city in Brazil, faces a severe housing crisis. Research shows that the metropolis has a housing deficit of 7.5%, equivalent to approximately 370,000 homes. At the same time, downtown São Paulo alone has thousands of vacant properties that could be rehabilitated to serve as social housing for underprivileged populations. This would help address not only the lack of adequate housing but also promote the revitalization of the city center. This work aims to present the methodology employed in an ongoing master’s research project for the ergonomic evaluation of social housing units located in buildings that have undergone retrofitting. It also outlines the findings and challenges encountered so far. The goal of the master’s research is to identify features related to the comfort of social housing unit users and propose design guidelines for future retrofitting projects targeting social housing.
