This article reports on a didactic experience conducted in the Environmental Lighting and Comfort course of the Architecture and Urbanism program at IFRO Campus Vilhena, aiming to integrate theory and practice through the construction of physical prototypes using shoeboxes. The activity, divided into three stages (seminar on solar control devices, visual memory exercise, and prototyping), sought to simulate and evaluate natural lighting in different architectural environments. The methodology was based on Active Learning principles, promoting student engagement and real-world problem-solving. The results demonstrated that hands-on experimentation facilitated the understanding of luminous phenomena and stimulated creativity and collaboration among students. Despite challenges related to the manual execution of the prototypes, the activity highlighted the importance of physical models as pedagogical tools in teaching environmental comfort, contributing to the training of more critical professionals.
