Abstract

Building construction projects are characterized by fragmentation and the involvement of great number of professionals. Collaboration among these professionals is essential to achievement of time, costs and clients’ requirements. However, several studies approach collaboration in different forms, making it difficult to analyse and evaluate in the building construction context. This research proposes a Conceptual Map to compilate and organize the concept of collaboration. The research method used was a bibliographic review, in which the constructs with greater repercussion in the definition of collaboration highlighted in the literature were identified. Collaboration was considered an interactive relationship between different agents who work together with confidence, increasing the commitment of those involved. This commitment, in turn, is only possible through processes transparency and between those involved, which helps to obtain a shared understanding of a problem and achieve a common goal. The present study contributed to a better understanding of collaboration and the relationships between its constituent concepts, so that researchers and construction managers can make more appropriate decisions to promote collaboration in management processes.
