Resumo

Green curtains are characterized as an option for solar control in architecture, where vine vegetation develops with the aid of supports in front and away from the vertical surfaces of the building. Used as an alternative to conventional solar protection systems, the vegetation can provide other benefits, as far as it responds dynamically to changes in the weather and the seasons, does not absorb heat, besides being a natural and low environmental impact element. Therefore, this study aims to compare performance of different solar control systems internal shutters, brise soleil and green curtains, on the energy performance of an office building, located on Bioclimatic Zone 2. The methodology was based on computer simulations, with modeling of a building base without solar control element and, later, with the inclusion of different shading options for openings, searching for a comparative analysis of energy consumption results with cooling systems, heating and lighting. Results evidenced that, in general, green curtains performance as a solar control element is favorable when compared to conventional systems with internal shutters or blinds.
