ANÁLISE MULTIDIMENSIONAL DOS PADRÕES URBANOS DO ESPAÇO PÚBLICO: O CASO DA CIDADE DE FELIZ, RS

Abstract

The present research aims to contribute to the dialogue between two theoretical fields, the Urban Ecology and the Urban Design, where small human settlements are concerned. The objective was to identify design patterns for the design of public spaces, that would stimulate human development in balance with nature. The research was structured in a way to be conducted in two steps. Firstly: a literature review was conducted in such a way to identify theoretical approaches and practices, with particular interest on those putting emphasis on the human and ecological dimensions of sustainability. After identifying the recurrent topics, three layers of design patterns were considered relevant to the objective of the study: (i) sustainable mobility; (ii) biodiversity, urban green áreas and food production; and (iii) water and urban drainage. This resulted in 144 design patterns, that were assembled and structured in four levels reading: community; open spaces/well being; the street as a public space; and built environment interfaces. Secondly, a study of the urban área of the municipality of Feliz was conducte, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, with the aim of assessing the applicability of such layers, as a way of obtnaing a diagnosis of an existing real situation. After that, the challenges and potentialities of these specific public spaces planning were synthesized, resulting in suggested strategies to pursue a more sustainable. It is believed that the study, can be used as a guide for the planning of urban areas of small cities.
