In view of the flooding cases, caused by anthropic actions to replace natural layers with impermeable surfaces and by precarious drainage systems, permeable concrete has been a device with the purpose of reducing surface runoff, increasing infiltration and temporary storage of rainwater. In this context, the present work aims to analyze factors that affect the behavior of rainwater in this type of material. For that, permeable concrete slabs were made with two granulometric combinations and two percentages of cement paste each, and subjected to intense rainfall simulation tests, flexural tensile strength, total and effective porosity, apparent density and tortuosity calculations. The results obtained were positive for decreasing runoff and water infiltration capacity in all mixtures. In addition, it was possible to note the strong relationship between the tortuosity of the slabs and the capacity for temporary water storage, with the most satisfactory results for mixtures with a higher percentage of cement paste.
