Abstract

In the last decades, the world market has been facing increasingly competitive and dynamic environments, competition has been relevant, and customers are increasingly demanding. The civil construction sector is an economic activity that represents an important share of the countries' gross domestic product. The evidence suggests that the construction companies do not give enough emphasis to strategic planning, thus, it is intended to identify, through a Systematic Mapping Study - SMS, the existing studies on strategic planning in civil construction and to analyze according to the established objectives. The study demonstrated a reduced number of studies with a focus on research, supporting the hypothesis of limited research on the topic in the sector. The most studied stages are the initials of the strategic planning process, suggesting knowledge gaps that can be explored with new studies in the area, such as the one that covers the implementation and control stages and a specific strategic planning process for civil construction.
