Zoos are increasingly introducing digital technology to enhance visitors' experience by observing animals, making human-animal encounters more attractive and educational, and to promote the welfare of animals in captivity. However, it is clear that applications of digital technologies are still rare in Brazil and in many other developing countries. Thus, this article discusses the current applications of digital technologies in the design of zoos and their potential in educating visitors. Four types of technologies applied to exhibitions are analyzed: digital panels, Augmented Reality panels, interactive equipment and live webcams.
