Abstract

The method of using occupant assessments drawings for determining daylight boundary in space was introduced by renowned authors of the scientific community. Great part of the studies already accomplished were produced in the Northern Hemisphere. There is a lack of studies in the Southern Hemisphere, with relevance in subjective evaluation considering local climatic aspects. This study is basically a respond to their invitation to replicate the method for further validating the conclusions. Thus, this research aims to identify users' perception of the spatial conditions of natural lighting in real spaces under different sky conditions and in different schedules. The field study was conducted in three classrooms at the Federal University of Santa Catarina-Florianopolis/SC, Brazil, and involved 233 evaluations of students and volunteers. The obtained results indicate that despite the very different sky conditions, the boundary lines of daylit spaces evaluations are quite similar to each other in the three classrooms. With these results it was possible to generate a graphical and statistical representation of the users' perception about the natural lighting conditions.
